My review of various articles on the web and an actual reading of two opinions suggests that Sotomayor is actually what most Americans want--somebody who can listen to the actual case involved and make a non-idealogical decision. She's joined decisions which liberals would condemn, while also promoting decisions which appall conservatives. Frankly, I strongly prefer that nuanced approach to the doctrinaire approach of some sitting members.

Your making it to simplistic. You have many people with tons of reasons both for and against. Jazz was making a point here on MV that a white judge couldn't get away with a similar statement and be confirmed. That may or may not be true, but it's is unarguable that a white republican would be roasted for saying such a thing regardless of meaning. To pretend otherwise or to give her an automatic "pass" isn't really "fair". It would be partisan politics, race politics, ect. While this isn't an election don't pretend it isn't about politics. One wrong word has cost people positions and elections, never mind what was clearly, at best, a poorly thought out sentence. That being said, everyone knows that if that's all they got she's getting in. Most opponents haven't had a chance to do more than check out the excerpts from her speech. If there are more gaffs she's gone if not she's in.
