I’m going to completely disagree with the commenter above and say that moderates should be in places of power within the Party. We do uphold the basic, founding tenets of the GOP- fiscal conservatism, limited government intrusion, personal freedoms- and the social issues pushed by the far right-wing are new introductions in the GOP seen in the last few decades as part of the Party’s Southern strategy. This strategy might have worked temporarily, but now the GOP has painted itself into the proverbial corner. What moderates in the Party should be doing is speaking out and guiding the Party back to its’ previous center-right position- not it’s new location as far-right. The Republican Party needs to be represented by it’s moderate base.

Patrick,

RINOs are the product of the left hand side of the bell curve of conservatism. We’ve always had them, just as liberals have those who inhabit the right side of their curve.

The argument being made by Democrats, the NY Times, MSNBC and various other fools is that the Republican party should move the center of the curve farther left, because in this past election, one charismatic liberal won.

This would make as much sense as the liberals placing Zell Miller in charge of their party after the ’04 elections.

RINOs are welcome in the Republican party, but not in any position of leadership or where they would be needed to uphold the basic tenets of conservatism.
