Kemp believed in free enterprise as the tide that would float all boats- big and small.

He never stopped trying to diversify the Republican party — and was continuously challenging it to be the party of Lincoln.

Is that why the Cons here are calling him a “happy-faced clown”? Because he didn't believe in just stepping over bodies of the poor in the road or ignoring discrimination???

This is what the “moderates” or “centrists” or “sensible” (or “mainstream” [sic]) among professed “Republicans” want for the GOP, to make it into a comic book version of the Democratic Party. (No doubt a goal supported covertly by some Dems, because a permanent “junior” second-rate Dem Party that won't seriously threaten the Dems' power yet be compatible with the Dems and their liberalism on at least some “grand strategic” and “strategic” concepts and goals is ideal. They can even pretend it's still a contest and get tax-funded junketsXXXXXXX conventions and campaigns!)

That is exactly the problem the GOP faces, while the ship continues to be attacked by like-minded pirates in the attempt to hijack it and force it to follow in the Democrats' (and liberals') _wake_. (“A kinder, gentler Republican party”; why not just say “we will bribe the bribeable with entitlements that can outdo the Dems, and stick our paws and noses into everything as much or more, too”?)

Kemp was a fool and liberal only remember him in fondness because he was a fool.. He is also an example of the problem that the longer a conservative hangs around DC, the less conservative the become. Kemp went from a suppllier siders to a big government conpassionante conservative.
