‘An Arrest Warrant for George W. Please!’: Der Tageszeitung, Germany

As we have already established – there is little patience in Europe for Bush Administration arguments about expediency when it comes to the issue of “harsh interrogation techniques.”

Adding his views to the debate on the subject is Robert Misik of Germany’s Die Tageszeitung, who writes in part:

“Those who are responsible for gross human rights violations should not so easily escape. It may be that George W. Bush and Dick Cheney don’t regard being stuck in the U.S. for good as severe punishment. But it would be an act of progress for civilization if the two knew that were they to land at Tegel [Berlin's main airport], they would be walked off in handcuffs.”

Germany – Die Tageszeitung – Original Article (German)

By reading the world press, it would appear that a most heinous violation of international law has been committed. Serious human rights violations have occurred. And since it’s likely that even prosecutors read newspapers – whether they be somewhere in Spain or Berlin, one can assume that all known and unknown suspects will soon be identified – and should they be within reach of investigators, taken into custody.

So I have a question… since the SS guards Bush even now as a civilian, if Bush were arrested in some other country, say Germany, would the SS protect him in prison, too? Would they rotate shifts? :)

Yes, think of the message it would send other people to think that breaking laws was supported by their own law enforcement entities. Video footage of the crimes are on the net worldwide. In our country, citizens could arrest them without a warrant being issued. Yes, they could, and should..

  3. GreenDreams says:

True, Sil. Plus, according to torture defenders, it should be acceptable for us to snatch (kidnap) suspected criminals from foreign countries too, and spirit them away for interrogation or prosecution. If that's the standard we now endorse, a European intelligence team could snatch these suspected criminals on American soil if they have allegedly committed crimes against those countries' citizens. It's going to be interesting…
