Thank you, StockBoy and GreenDreams. Reading comments like yours makes up even if just a little bit for the people who are saying even now that nothing in these memos was torture.

I was also pleased tonight when I watched Countdown to hear Jonathan Turley say the same thing about Obama's use of the word "retribution." In almost the identical words, too, lol. It's nice to be validated.

I think Obama sees a dangerously divided nation and is trying to expose the atrocities but not increase the divisions. You can imagine the shrieks of horror if BushCo were indicted.

That said, Kathy, I'm with you. I'd throw the book at them. I only hope that these war criminals fall into the hands of a foreign power that WILL prosecute them.

"In releasing these memos, it is our intention to assure those who carried out their duties relying in good faith upon legal advice from the Department of Justice that they will not be subject to prosecution."

Hmmm... so that exonerates the CIA officials who actually got their hands dirty but what about Gonzales? He was the one who provided legal advice.....

Kathy, I agree with your statement, "I was not aware that enforcing the law was a matter of “retribution.” Being a “nation of laws” means nothing if people who break those laws are not held accountable."

While I can understand the low ranking officers being exonerated, I do not agree that the high ranking officials should be.

This is truly disappointing on Obama's part. I wonder if other countries will press charges against these high ranking officials.

It's really inexcusable that men who engaged in this type of activity are excused. The Bush administration also "outed" Plame as a spy... and the Bush Administration claimed it would investigate fully.... but only created roadblocks....

I honestly don't know what Obama is thinking... despite his statement.
