Attending A Tea Party For A Little Tea

My brother and I will be headed to the University Of Georgia Tea Party (starts at 4:30pm EST) within the hour to see the lay of the land, so to speak. I’m going to try and live blog the event but if I’m not successful, I’m going to write a summary of the experience later today or early tomorrow. My brother’s manning the camera since he’s skilled in that department. So I guess your wondering (or not) why this center-left, Big Two Party hater is going to a mostly conservative tea party?

Because I love and respect a good protest!

Being a guy that used to subscribe to “far left extremist” and black nationalist viewpoints, I have participated in many a protest. Sometimes there were three of us and sometimes thirty. But I always had a bit of the rebel in me and loved the atmosphere of a protest. Regardless of what is said about the tea party protests across the nation today, the fact that Americans are organizing peacefully to voice their concerns about our country is a damn fine thing. I know there will be many anti-Obama signs along with assorted nastiness in general but that’s the way it goes. It is our right to peaceful and public assembly. And should be exercised when we feel the need to.

So away I go, a bit early so my bro and I can get a bite to eat, to the UGA Tea Party protest for a little tea. But will there be crumpets?

Good for you and have a good time. There is parts of the message of the “Tea Party” that I agree with. The big one: we need tax reforms, but not in the way most far-right or far-left would agree with.

I wish I could join you…I'm not that far away from you but I'm a mom in the burbs and I couldn't find anything going on earlier in the day while the kids were in school. Being a stay at home mom kind of cuts into the rebel possibilities!

Nearly verbatim ditto CStanley! I'm not gonna make it to any tea parties today either, dang it. Looking forward to your take, T!

Can't wait for the review/video – I'm a total sucker for primary source blogging! Thank you for going.

I will have a full reaction tomorrow with video (not by me though… LOL).
