An excellent post, following up on D.E.'s previous writing on this issue.

The Air Force Times article (see D.E.'s link) was especially fascinating.

While it is true, as one commentator noted in the article, that most deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan have been from IEDs, and “It’s pretty hard to be a hero against an IED,” ... the quantitative and qualitative evidence makes it clear that an injustice has been occurring from some years.

Note the outrageous story about the "illegal immigrant" who gave his life for his country under conditions of great gallantry, and receives a secondary award. I too wonder at the politicization of this process.

Particularly powerful: the contrast of the reasons for LBJ receiving a Silver Star for effectively nada in WWII, and those for a soldier who received the Silver Star in Iraq for remarkable (and fatal) heroism.

Fine post...on an important issue of justice for some remarkable individuals.
