Your mark….get set…not quite GO yet but.. Will the next wave of outrage about how Obama is demeaning the office of the Presidency (the one that was so strengthened under George W. Bush) be over THIS? (When you hear it on talk, cable and on some Internet sites, remember you read it here first!)
The left/Democrats and Obama seem to be obsessed with FDR.
This president indeed is in love with himself. Now his wife must plant a FDR style victory garden. I'm sure living in Chicago lent itself to a lot of gardening in her past. Good for her. I wonder if she had a garden in Chicago? It will be curious to find out if she will do the digging or if she will have someone else do all the work so she can take all the credit. Forgive my skeptism but this is such transparent involking of the FDR legacy and they have done nothing to earn it.
But they are sure trying hard to make FDR/OBAMA a synonymn.
This is a great idea and what better way than to support America, be patriotic and showcase what we can do!
Good ideas are always timeless.
The victory gardens of Roosevelt's time may have been to help lower food costs for the military, but this garden is meant to combat obesity and other unhealthy conditions such as diabetes which add billions to healthcare costs (and poorer quality) lives for millions of Americans.
It was great that Americans during WWII wanted to support the war effort, and it's great now that Americans are taking personal responsibility for their own health. Any one who believes in personal responsibility should support Michelle's efforts, follow her example and take on this responsibility.
Though I'm sure countries (seems like everywhere from Mexico to China) we import food from won't be so receptive if enough Americans start growing their own food, reducing imported food and reducing money we send overseas. Let's keep our American dollars at home.
Uh Skaredykatt, maybe The First Lady likes veggies straight from the garden…
…or, maybe Mrs Obama just wants to “educate children about healthful, locally grown fruit and vegetables at time when obesity has become a national concern.”
Wow, how sinister, how “transparent”
Um, I haven't seen any outrage. Just claims that the Right WILL be outraged. Wishful thinking? Or is this just unsubstantiated 'moderate' sliming of the Right by our fearless leader?
Maybe they'll go for farm subsidies to lessen their tax burden.
If there were nothing else for the right to criticize Obama on, perhaps. The air is full of much bigger items atm however. The AIG Bonuses that the administration protected and inserted in the stimulas that got passed before most of Congress could read it, The performance of Tim Geitner in general, the lack of Obama giving Geitner help by appointing deputies and other positions requiring a presidential appointment (despite the economy being his #1 priority), Obama still being in campaign mode rather than governing mode, the errors on the diplomatic front to Brazil, Russia, and most importantly the Brittis, the CBO estimate of the deficit of 9.3 trillion more dollars over the next decade, the idea that was floating around in the Executive branch about requiring veterans to have to pay for some of their own treatment for injuries they got in the line of duty, etc.
Nope, don't think much will come of this little garden.
They're planting a garden. Big deal. Why would this be controversial to anyone?
If seeing the new first family as “real” people rather than the elitist clap trap that we have had since Carter, go for it.
