I think that if it is found that Al Qaida exists even in part as a purposeful means to falsely galvanize our country behind an illegal invasion to sieze Iraq'a oil (see Bush's ties to the Bin Laden family) then we should boogie out of Afghanistan as fast as we can. Chasing mirages is expensive and foolhardy.

If Cheney wanted Osama Bin Laden found, our special forces would've had his head on a platter 8 years ago. Oh, yes, they would've. Why haven't they? Ponder that one Grasshopper..

I don't think we should leave Afghanistan. Obama has said all along that we should fight the terrorists in Afghanistan and I support him. The terrorists who attacked our country and have vowed to do so again are in Afghanistan. We need to fight them. While I don't want an open ended war I think our goal should be to capture (or kill) bin Laden and other top officials.

What we do after that I will admit that I don't know the best strategy. I'd be reluctant to leave because a new terror leader might emerge. But I'm reluctant to stay becuase it might appear like an occupation.

But we need to stay in Afghanistan until bin Laden is taken care of. Of that there can be no doubt.

I'm really impressed that you wrote this entire Afghanistan post without once mentioning Russia. For that matter, I'm amazed the Gelb managed to avoid the obvious as well.

I imagine them chortling a bit over their vodka, don't you?
