I figured out who is going to get jobs under Obama’s stimulus package. Unfortunately, for the rest of us, in order to receive the benefit you have to be a black male in the political / entertainment field who does not have enough talent to make it on their own merit. First, the job plan benefited David Alan Grier who landed a show called “Chocolate News” on Comedy Central. I have never watched it and it lasted only 10 episodes. I guess “Chocolate News” was no longer PC once we actually had elected a black president.
Roland Burris is next on the list because he benefited from the Obama senate seat sweepstakes. It turns out that Burris may have made a deal with Blagojevich and could face censure in the coming months. Michael Steele benefited from the jobs program in winning the RNC Chairmanship last month. Michael was chosen, not because of his political ability, but because he was supposed to be the response to Obama in rhetoric, intelligence and as a man of color. However, as Michael soon found out, his responsibilities as RNC chair and his wish to be the leader of the Republican Party in the media will sometimes be at odds with each other.
Finally, we come to D.L. Hughley – the biggest recipient of the Obama job program. D.L. is a funny comedian who has played clubs for years. He is best known for the film: The Original Kings of Comedy. Now, he has a job hosting a talk show that deals with political issues. Huh? When did I miss that memo? You mean to tell me that CNN could not find a black man with political experience to host this show. This has got to be Affirmative Action at either its best or most ridiculous. What’s next? Fox News hiring Chris Rock – oh, that’s right, he actually still has a career.
Never fear MSNBC, if you want to start a news talk show I hear that Dave Chappelle and Martin Lawrence are looking for work…
UPDATE: I can’t post this in the disqus comment section so I will respond here. I knew that I would get a reaction by writing this post. As Bernie Mac said, “I just say things you all are afraid to say.”
I am neither a racist nor was I attempting to be funny. I was simply making an observation on the hiring practices of CNN. The point is that CNN is trying to fill a perceived void in their programming because they have a terrible track record in hiring African-Americans and they are trying desperately to make up ground because we have a man of color as President of the United States.
‘Nuff Said.
