Liberal comedian Al Franken wrote a book titled Rush Limbaugh Is A Big Fat Idiot.
Conservative David Frum wrote this week’s cover story for Newsweek Magazine under the title “Why Rush Is Wrong.”
I have avoided the comic opera now playing between Limbaugh and the White House which has borrowed Clintonian tactics of setting up Rush as a straw man.
Despite how much Rush huffs and puffs, he represents to me a loud out-of-touch voice of the conservative movement and thereby a blotch on the Republican Party if it ever expects to win back Congress and the White House.
Rush’s critics are violating all the rules of communication:
Never battle a radio talk show host who is on the air three hours a day, five days a week. Same goes for picking a fight with a newspaper which buys its ink by the barrel.
Limbaugh is the best at what he does. He makes millions at it. Good for him. His legions of fans consider him the oracle of the conservative movement if not common sense.
But keep this in mind. Limbaugh is elected to nothing. He is not shackled by Republican politicians whom he favors and who must make decisions to help their constituents and seek re-election.
In truth, he is an entertainer as rightfully defined by Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele. He is also a comedian sarcastically dubbed by MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann who now calls him “Boss Limbaugh” since the Republican Party at this time is leaderless as well as rudderless.
Limbaugh possesses an ego so inflated it makes Bill O’Reilly appear a humble man. His challenge to fly President Obama to his station in Palm Beach for a debate was show business taken to the nth degree.
Okay, I admit Obama made a rookie mistake by naming Limbaugh in a well-publicized remark.
Rush is a bigot and oftentimes mean-spirited. His brief fling as a sports commentator ended abruptly when he claimed Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was overrated because he was black. Last week talking about President Obama’s health care plan, he suggested it should be called “The Kennedy Memorial Health Plan,” a direct slap at Sen. Ted Kennedy who is suffering from brain cancer and a lifelong proponent of universal health coverage.
These are not isolated potshots at Limbaugh. They are consistent blemishes throughout his 15 years on national radio.
It matters little that I am one of those 64% or whatever the number who look unfavorably on Rush Limbaugh. The fact is, people the likes of Limbaugh spewing their rigid ideology drove me away from the Republican Party years ago.
That is why it was refreshing to read Frum’s article where he proposed a fresh approach of conservative principles tailored to today’s culture and economy.
It is the absence of good reasoning and intellectual thought why I chose to skip the circus surrounding the current Limbaugh shenanigans. It sounds good, is a lot of fun, but signifies nothing. Far as I’m concerned, it’s just another pissing contest.

Fortunately, Limbaugh's career is limited, since only 11% of people under the age of 40 think he has anything worthwhile to say. More republicans will need to become aware of this if they want to avoid devolving into a party of reactionary, geriatric, white men.
It wouldn't be an issue if the GOP leadership weren't so eager to bow the knee whenever Rush bellows. But they've given Obama a golden opportunity. He can now tie the GOP in the public's mind to a racist, self-aggrandizing drug addict who got caught coming back from a solo trip to the Dominican Republic with a suitcase fill of Viagra. The public perception of the Republicans as the party of corruption, phoniness, hypocrisy and racism will be set in stone for years to come.
It never ceases to amaze me that Rush is the leading voice on conservative talk radio- with an audience that tops 15 million. The “dittoheads” should start to think for themselves!
The name of your blog says it all, Jerry- Moderate aka RINO.
And you can take your readers and Alan Specter, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, Lindsey Graham, John McCain (Bless his Heart) and shove it.
Rush Limbaugh is not the “de facto head of the Republican Party”- he is the voice of REASON for TRUE Conservatives.
He was the only one who KNEW that the Obama administration was “playing” the Republican party.
And his millions of listeners know that too.
You can't read blogs and blurbs and watch the MSM to “get” Rush.
You have to listen consistantly for several weeks-
To get to know the man and the nuance and the meaning and the truth of his information.
An independent statistics company has him at 99% RIGHT.
Pretty good over 20 years in talk radio.
You RINOs can bitch all you want- but we Conservatives are working to rebuild the party-
whether it be Sarah Palin, Bobby Jindal, Mike Huckabee or Aaron Schock.
The real deal is- Obama and the Dems are spending us into Socialism and killing this country.
I hope everyone reading this blog will listen to Rush's CPAC speech- which was brilliant.
It could save you from 6 weeks of tuning in to his radio show.
But then again- it just make you tune in!
And by all means- name Socialized Medicine for Sir Kennedy- the Chappaquiddick Killer.
Google THAT you children who went to liberal schools and are clueless.
Google Mary Jo Kopechne and tell me if this drunken idiot deserves knighthood.
The world has gone crazy and I am a witness.
God Bless America!

I can only speak for myself but I used to listen to him every day. I even subscribed to Rush 24/7 for a couple of years so I could listen to the full program when I got home at night. What I eventually learned is that he's a severely out of touch blowhard. If you don't think 100% like him then you're the enemy, and unfortunately that attitude has spread to the GOP in general.
I agree, DaGoat.
I remember when he was a fringe element who was not taken seriously by anyone in power.
Rush is a propagandist who says what his conservative audience wants to hear- but his rants are not reality-based. That makes him – because of his huge ratings– very dangerous.
Man, and they call Obama supporters a “cult.”
coolpillow
Nothing on God's green earth could make me tune in to 6 weeks of Limbaugh!
It would make waterboarding look like a day at the splash park.
Then- just be open minded enough to listen to his CPAC speech. It encapsulates Conservative values-
Conservatives hold fast to what the Founding Fathers wanted for this Country.
And the current administraion wants to shred the Constitution.
No, that was done by the last administration- with their numerous snubs of the congressional branch of government, and their belief in expanded powers for the executive branch.
Not to mention the VP's position that he was neither in the Executive Branch OR the legislative branch!
I don't need to listen to the CPAC speech- I got a bellyful of Rush when I drove a delivery route a few years ago and listened to his program every day. That openmindedness led to chronic nausea.
You go and do and say and do.
Hope you don't live in a big city.
Your Messiah is showing the world that he and his admin are weak.
Put your head between your legs- and you know the rest
