I am just as out of touch as him about homelessness and might have the same thought. The last time I helped in a homeless kitchen, cell phones didn't exist. Fortunately, I don't have a national blog to embarrass myself, but if I did say something stupid and learned it was stupid, I hope I'd be strong enough to do a quick post explaining that I was wrong. However, I never expect that to occur. What's interesting is the LA Times guy will never likely post a “my bad”. I am just as out of touch as him about homelessness and might have the same thought. The last time I helped in a homeless kitchen, cell phones didn't exist. Besides getting a job, as Dyre42 suggested, they are a lifeline when you are in precarious circumstances. The homeless are vulnerable. But how much less vulnerable if they can call family or 911 in case of emergency. Were I homeless I'd skip lunch sooner than give up phone access. Why would any homeless person not have a cell phone?
