Bush Is Not And Obama Is Not

che_obama_1_small.jpg bush_hitler02_small.jpg

It happened when former President George W. Bush was at the helm and it’s happening now with President Barack H. Obama in the captain’s chair: comparison of American presidents to the dictators, executioners, thugs, and HIGHLY questionable figures of yesteryear by some people. This bothers me more than it should. This isn’t majority thought but still…

I deeply respect the Office of the Presidency and I deeply respect each and every American president as the elected leader of our great nation. No matter how much I disagree with them, I respect them as the President Of The United States. Because of this, I will not attribute the qualities of nutbags, fruitcakes, killers, madmen, and butchers to an American President for this one reason:

NONE OF THEM ARE!

Former President Bush wasn’t and never will be Adolf Hitler. President Obama isn’t and never will be Che Guevara. Is it necessary to attribute such terribleness to American Presidents because you strongly disagree with them?

Now associating a chimpanzee to former President Bush and Alfred E. Neuman to President Obama is quite funny. Chimpanzees and Alfred E. Neuman aren’t in the same dimension as Adolf Hitler and Che Guevara.

    Agreed.

But you knew it was coming.

After years of this type of rhetoric directed at Bush and Cheney there was no doubt that this was coming.

Today I've been hearing Obama called a Hugo Chavez dictator.

No telling what tomorrow brings. The chimp thing though I have say thats not funny………what would be the outcry if Obama was called Chimperor in chief…..Im not saying…Im just saying.

The outcry would be deservedly greater, greenschemes, because there is a long and serious history in our nation of identifying African-Americans with subhumans like chimps. Portraying Obama as a monkey directly ties into centuries of rampant racism which our nation is still trying to get past. There is no history of denigrating all white people as a type of monkey and so the Bush as chimp thing is only a personal attack / joke, not an attack tied to a history of race.

Yes. And even though I knew it was coming, I hoped it wouldn't. It's almost like some people wish the reincarnations of Hitler or Guevara would turn up in the White House so they can have a cause to fight against (figuratively and literally).

The chimpanzee angle may not be funny to all but it is infinitely more harmless than Adolf Hitler. Has for the “Chimperor” In Chief, yeah there would be some serious volcanic eruptions from the NAACP, CBC, and other organizations (not to mention individuals). But that the whole racial double standard, whether justified or not, that still bites us in the arse from time to time.

    T,
Thanks for your reasoned posts. I look forward to reading them.

Chavez may be many things, but he is not a dictator. He was elected fair and square, you'll have to tell your friends to get over it.

The people who create these comparisons probably could not articulate Che's or Hitler's political philosophy. They demonstrate their resounding ignorance by broad brushing current figures with boogey men from the past. Unfortunately, there is an equally ignorant group of people who lap this crap up and call it politics.
