modforce1:

With the exception of Canada and the UK, and then only to an extent, you are absolutely correct.

As the war in Afghanistan moves to the front burner and the White House hopefully turns up the heat on Pakistan, one of the back stories will be whether NATO nations are willing to play a larger role in forces and materiel. I seriously doubt it, and can only hope that Obama summons the cojones to call them our for their hypocrisy and cowardice.

"the resurgent Al Qaeda-backed Taliban, which is putting twice as many guerrillas into the field today as it did two years ago, has fought U.S. and NATO troops to a stalemate."

Right, as if NATO forces have been doing much actual fighting in Afghanistan. Let's be honest and acknowledge that one of the big problems in the campaign for Afghanistan in the lack of a real combat commitment on the part o NATO forces. U.S. troops do almost all of the fighting, while the leaders of NATO countries refuse to send their troops into the fray, for fear of casualities hurting them in the next elections.
