Your own remarks demonstrate the reason why the Republican base is shrinking. “libtard bloggers”, Salin Palin, “Joe the Plumber”, . . . all catch phrases with no substance. Read Riehl World, Allahpundit comments, and discover how the GOP true believers savage anyone who disagrees with their own, limited view. I look forward to 2010 when the cycle continues, and the Democrats pull a three-peat of the 2006 and 2008 elections. At that time the GOP will continue its own self destruction as a party that isn't even viable in the South, as Florida, Virginia, and North Carolina have demonstrated. Word's out that Texas and Arizona are the next states to move to the Democratic column.

Great point. While there is a new generation of GOP leadership ( Steele, Palin, Pawlenty, Sanford, Cantor and many others are part this new generation–Generation Jones, between the Boomers and Generation X), they have few counterparts in their like-minded media. Other than Hannity, there aren't many prominent GOP media GenJonesers, mostly it's old-school 20th Century Boomers.

Why is it a newsflash that a party that's taken a routing is still sorting out its options five weeks into the new administration's tenure? Can we have a little bit of perspective here? It took 12 years after Carter for the Democrats to find Clinton, and then 8 years after Clinton to get to Obama. As short a time as one year ago, it was not at all clear that the Dems were going to rally behind Obama.

Joe, I don't think you have the cred to give advice to the Repubs. And as for “attack, demonize and ridicule people in tidy sound bites,” that was your own specialty with Sarah Palin while most of the libtard bloggers do nothing else when talking about her. A little self-knowledge goes a long way.

And Jindal became a target merely because of style points.
