I find it hard to believe that Obama has such a high approval rating. His first few weeks as president only showed what an empty suit he is and the major mistake we Americans made in electing a man with no experience whatsoever. What president in his/her right mind would hand the job a crafting this bill, to Nancy Pelosi? He showed his lack of leadership by not being as involved in the crafting that he should have. Look at the people he tried to include in his cabinet. People who have not paid their taxes and Obama tried to make it look like just a small mistake. Does he think we are that stupid. He comes from corrupt Chicago politics and old habits died hard. And what happened to the transparent administration he promised. This bill was passed without telling the American prople what was proposed in it. As it turns out, there is alot of pork and a continued rape of the American people. He will go down as one of the worst presidents after all is said and done. Can't wait for the next election!

I think your very accurate in your Assessment. I think it is indeed the Democrats day in the sun and it is Barak Obama's time to shine. The democrats and Barak Obama have not been in power long enough to really make anyone mad at them yet.

Give em time. This is exactly what the GOP is doing. Hunkering down and letting the bad economy become the Democrats Iraq war.

The dems did it to them. They are glad to do it in return. Right or wrong. It is what it is.

Very well-written article. The bubble you describe is absolutely true. Relevant to your reference to Boomers, as many nationally influential voices have repeatedly noted, Obama is part of Generation Jones, born 1954-1965, between the Boomers and Generation X. Google Generation Jones, and you'll see it’s gotten a lot of media attention, and many top commentators from many top publications and networks (Washington Post, Time magazine, NBC, Newsweek, ABC, etc.) specifically use this term to describe Obama.

Great op-ed on Obama as the first Generation Jones President in USA TODAY a couple of weeks ago:
http://www.usatoday.com/printedition/news/20090...

How about a better explanation: The public is desperate for a big stimulus bill - a spending bill - and the Republicans are just not showing that they get the nation's mood. It's much like McCain's slip-up when he said the economy is "fundamentally strong." Or Phil Gramm claiming we are in a "mental recession" and are a "nation of whiners." It's very possible that the Republican Party really feels that way, and the nation does not. So, while the national media turned over their broadcasts to the silly claims of "porkulus" the American people said, "Pork or not, we need it."

Note that what changed things for Obama was his personal willingness to take the stimulus on as his own. The GOP doesn't stand a chance against Obama when he goes out to the country. I suspect Obama will not allow Reid and Pelosi to take the PR lead again.

When Obama's support stays high and the GOP's support actually DROPS during the stimulus debate, it's quite obvious who is in the bubble.

I wouldn't say so much that Obama is in a bubble -- the bill he was defending and insisting be passed is garbage, but he's probably looking ahead to establish a strong federal role in resolving the economic slump (the kind of thing incrementalists would dearly love to exploit, a point made effectively by Obama's chief of staff) and to set the Dems in control. He wants some GOP acquiescence (Snowe, Collins, Specter, and those like them are Democrats in all but name, and hardly count as "Republicans" except among the gullible and sheep-like) but given the GOP's dysfunctionality and their failure to practice what they preach in the past, the GOP may think it now is in a position to second-guess and howl when things go wrong, but the public won't be swayed. This is a Democratic bill and Democratic responsibility -- it doesn't mean that the GOP is necessarily better, by default.

To the extent that many power-mad or conceited Dems are in a bubble, a power bubble -- it should burst eventually. I just hope we don't pay too much more than we'll be already paying for the privilege of experiencing this bubble (government spending and intervention or power growth bubble).
