Did you watch the big shindig last night? I did. It had a few high points, but a lot more of it was dark comedy. You can catch up with my impressions of it and what lessons we can take in my latest column at Pajamas Media today.
You say that no Republican has suggested doing nothing, but that's exactly what they are suggesting. Tax cuts alone won't do a thing. And frankly I don't believe tax cuts have ever really worked. And that's the ONLY solution they have. What's their alternative plan? And excuse me. But I believe tax cuts were added and vital funds for education and unemployment were stripped TO PLACATE REPUBLICANS. And they are STILL whining about bipartisanship. Screw that. Concessions were made for them, but apparently it's only bipartisanship when ONLY their tax cuts and nothing else is implemented. Jeebus what a whiny bunch.
djshay, doing nothing means…doing nothing. If that's what the GOP was suggesting, then what is your very next sentence about? Oh, the tax cuts that are suggested by the GOP. Which, by the way, isn't the ONLY solution they have, there were several alternative proposals which included a mix of tax cuts and spending. I happen to think that all of their alternative plans were pretty lousy, but it still doesn't change the fact that there were alternative ideas, and Obama was inaccurate when he portrayed the GOP as wanting to 'do nothing.'
Another innacuracy in your comment is that the tax cuts were not put in to placate Republicans; Obama campaigned on this and on Jan 5, before his inauguration and the swearing in of the new Congress, he stated that his recommendation was a stimulus package made up of 40% tax cuts, 60% spending.
General Motors Corp. may win protection from a tax liability of as much as $7 billion when Senate stimulus legislation moves to a conference committee, Senator Carl Levin said.
“There’s some strong feeling that it ought to be included in the conference report,” Levin, a Michigan Democrat, said of the protection in comments to reporters today.

Damn those Republicans for always trying to sneak in more tax cuts! And the brazen gall of them to make it a home state pork project at the same time!

Shorter Jazz Shaw:
I can't find anything bad to say about the presser, but I have this PJM deadline so I'll just have to criticize him refusing to engage in hyperbole.

At least Obamama can string together adult sentences and speak coherently. His predecessor was an embarrassment to all MBA's and high school grads.
