What Is It With Democrats And Taxes ?

About three years ago it seemed like every time you turned on the television there was another Republican involved in a sex scandal. For some reason it appeared that Republicans just could not avoid being caught in bed (or bathroom) with someone and the party suffered for it. Despite the fact that undoubtedly Democrats were just as capable of having sex scandals, they just didn’t seem to have any of them show up in the press.

More recently the tables seem to have turned as Democrats seem to be caught up in problems over taxes. We’ve already seen one Cabinet nominee (Daschle) drop out and another face tough hearings (Geithner). It is probable based on news reports that Caroline Kennedy lost her Senate bid because of tax issues and that Governor Richardson also dropped out of contention for Commerce because of tax related problems. We also saw Nancy Killefer drop her bid for Chief Performance Officer because of it.

Looking back to the Bush 41 and 43 nominations I don’t recall any major tax issues but we did see a couple of Clinton contenders drop out for tax related issues.

Which leads to the question of the day…..

What is it with Democrats and tax problems ?

I mean I can understand if one of us ‘normal people’ have tax issues but when you are a top contender for a Cabinet position you would think you’d make sure to keep taxes and nanny issues in order. This is especially true when you are a Democrat and probably make political points on attacking ‘rich tax cheats’.

Does make you scratch your head…

And I do know the same thoughts could be applied to the GOP sex scandals during 2006, but that was then and this is now, so I am addressing the current problems.

The Liberal press finally doing it's job…

Had it been doing it's job during the Bush Administration, I am sure that they would have found just as many tax issues, but they had more important things to so like cheering on new wars and new tax cuts.

If I remember correctly, Clinton nominees also had problems with the employment of undocumented workers as household help(maids, gardeners, etc..), I have a very hard time believing that none of Shrubs nominees had never hired an undocumented worker.

As for sex scandals, you don't have to work to hard to report them, the local cops come right out and tell that so and so got busted trolling for blow jobs in the airport. No investigation required!

So let me give it to you straight, when a Republican gets elected the press becomes part of the administration propaganda operation, when a Democrat gets elected, it becomes part of the Republican's Media Operation.

KISS, The media is owned by wealthy people whose interest are best represented by the Republican Party, therefor they do whatever is required to help the party.

The comparison of Dems and tax dodging to GOP and sex scandals does kind of make you wonder if psychological projection is at work- the Dems attempting to speak about taxation as a moral obligation to cover their own 'immoral' behavior in avoiding the required payments, while some GOP family values proponents are putting on a public face of prurience to cover their own lapses.

Or alternatively, maybe we hear about those particular vices because the oppo research focuses on them to highlight the other side's hypocrisy. Maybe GOP opposition researchers and right wing bloggers don't bother to seek out evidence of Democrat sexual liasons and Dem oppo researchers and liberal bloggers don't bother to expose GOP tax evasion.
