I dont think either party has a clue what to do to stimulate the economy SINCE STIMULUS DOES NOT WORK in recessions.

Therefore we are left with dealing with the recession.

Unemployment should be increased to 1 year and increased by 25 percent.
Two stimulus checks over the next 11 months should be sent out which will do two things. Pay down debt and go into savings. (Banks have more money to loan if people are saving.) Businesses are much happier if people pay back what they owe.

Total size of my bill. 12 pages. Not 830 pages. Savings priceless.

Once this mess is resolved then the Democrats can focus on raising taxes on the wealthy and the not so wealthy. Get a grip on government and hopefully balance the budget. Once we have a grip on government and the economy moving forward again they can focus on their pet projects like health care etc. WE have been without health care for 230 years. We can wait another 18 months. In a time when the people of this country put them in a position to make changes and work for the American public already their numbers are not just sliding but tumbling at the polls.

I get the sense that Obama is playing this differently than anybody has before. He wants Pelosi and Reid to put their plans forward. And he wants the GOP to push back with its plans. And then he wants to find the common ground with the sensible moderate Repubicans (Collins, Snowe, Specter, Voinovich) to get a cleaner bill through the Senate. I suspect that he will be successful and a slimmed down bill will pass.

The problem is the megaphone and media manipulation. The GOP has absolutely dominated the airwaves with BS about unnecessary spending without ever being asked how their own tax cut plan will actually stimulate the economy - and not lead where the Bush Administration did.

Obama's strategy with Hill Repubicans might be the right one in the end - let Pelosi take the heat. But his media strategy was really suffering until today when he finally called the Republicans out for their bankrupt ideology. I suspect he hoped to do that yesterday too - if not for Daschle.
