Agree with JSpencer. Chavez is something along the lines of the classic crazy South American tin pot dictator portrayed in so many Hollywood b-movies. Castro is a wizened and savvy political operator. 50 years from now Chavez, with all his oil revenues, will have been long forgotten. Castro, with nothing but relatively fleeting backing from his Soviet financiers, managed to "face down" the "bogeyman" in his front yard, the U.S., with style if not grace. He had early mastered the geopolitical game even as 11 different U.S presidents trudged through history.

In case you've mistaken this as supportive of the bastard, it's certainly not. But facts is facts, and Castro is winding down his long and successful career in comfort, despite our "best efforts" to bring him down. Mega Fail.

I suspect many of us came to the conclusion that Chavez is not quite right in the head long before Obama came on the scene. All this latest news does is help cement the impression. On the other hand, the attitude coming from Castro is rather interesting...
