Tax breaks aren't a bad thing if they help people financially. But the Republicans are claiming that it is a better stimulus for the economy than spending on projects that will provide jobs. This is totally false. The tax breaks they are talking about aren't enough for people to do much more than pay down some of their debt and buy imported goods from big box retailers. The breaks for small business aren't even close to being enough for one of the most precarious segments of our economy to make major new commitments like hiring new people. But if there is actual work to be done here in the United States repairing infrastructure and improving the energy efficiency of buildings and any other useful work that can't be sent overseas then they can get contracts. Then they can hire people.
