Brief Round Up of Reaction to Windows 7 Beta
David Pogue (above) likes it. His print column on Windows 7. Endgadget has benchmarks galore, “it looks like XP is still the outright speed champ on current hardware.” Here’s 7 v Vista and 7 v XP. CNet’s Don Reisinger has been using Windows 7 beta for a while, “he’s surprised to say that he’s excited for the final release.” ArsTechnica has an in-depth tour, “the major work in Windows 7 is to the user interface.” Scott Merrill at TechCrunch says that “according to some Windows 7 will put the final nail in the coffin of desktop Linux.”

Windows 7 will not kill “desktop Linux”.
I like the beta to Windows 7 but it's new Taskbar is nice but not worth paying for an upgrade from Vista.
Most of the articles you linked to refer to the appearance and interface changes but a few days ago I was reading that it also has some useful features if you're working in a networked environment with Windows Server 2008. Once it's been out for a while and I have a chance to see how those are working in real world environments I'll probably recommend upgrading our servers upgraded from 2003 to 2008 and then be willing to move beyond Windows XP on our machines at the office, though we'll be taking the approach of gradual switching as machines are replaced instead of a quick change. But the improvements in remote assistance I was reading about are pretty compelling when you have locations as scattered as we have. I have pcAnywhere on lots of systems but improvements in remote access to use on other computers would still be great.
