So, Party first and then Country? It seems that this is the same complaint that the left has with the Republicans - and I happen to agree that putting party first is wrong in these times.

Perhaps she has other qualities that will make her a good senator that Gov. Patterson (surely not a rightwingnut) sees and you don't.

The gun thing is a moot point, I don't agree with her take on gay marriage, but her view (against) happens to coincide with the President's stated one while being a member of a politically active family is not exactly rare in the Senate and probably an asset.

If she is not a good choice, we will find out in a few years.

Paterson has proven himself to be a weak and ineffectual figure, unable to take charge of the situation. Seriously, all he had to do was pick someone, a Democrat to replace a Democrat in an overwhelmingly Democratic state. So why the “confusing and even embarrassing two-month ordeal”? What’s the problem?

Oh, come on.

It's one thing to dislike the supposed replacement for her politics. But this complaint is kind of silly. Maybe your longing for the good-old-days of Eliot Spitzer should have tipped you to that.

I agree that this drama is ridiculous. But the name Caroline Kennedy sells advertising space. This ridiculous drama is just another example of our dumb media feathering its own bed.

I don't think Patterson can fairly be blamed because a world famous person announced she wanted the job.

In fact, I think it should be acknowleged that Patterson was somewhat wise in waiting to see if she might self-destruct as a viable candidate, considering her lack of experience.
