On Judging Obama’s Inaugural Speech

In an earlier post and long roundup HERE, I argued that President Barack Obama’s inaugural speech was good but not what you’d call great. But is it too early to even judge? Talk Left’s Big Tent Democrat, one of the most perceptive writers on a weblog of any political persuasion, offers this word of caution.

One Response to “On Judging Obama’s Inaugural Speech”

  1. DLS says:

It was good but not great. The “words carved in granite someday” claims were just a continuation of the stupid masturbatory orgy.

The main observation to have been made was that Obama's speech, its content and the style with which it was delivered, was consistent with Obama's speeches and speaking throughout the length of his successful presidential campaign.

It was nothing special. I stepped out of my vehicle to refuel it during the speech, rather than stay inside and listen to the entire speech. What mattered was the occasion, and I hoped (no pun intended) that it would be blaring inside the building where I went to pay after I had refueled my vehicle. This is the USA, this is Inauguration Day, and the speech _should_ be blaring inside every building where playing a radio or television is appropriate or desireable. And it was the case in this building where I went to pay. As should have been the case.

The event is over. It's time to end the silly swooning and join the rest of us who are observing the President beginning to get to work.
