I'm a supporter of Obama's and was mildly disappointed by his speech. There was no soaring catch phrase, and no specific challenge thrown out there. By comparison to, say, JFK's inaugural, it was weak tea. The message, "America, take your medicine." It was too cautious. He should have aimed higher.

Marlowecan:

You're right on Rick Warren, that is why I politely said it "was OK, considering…"

Other comments are well-taken.

D.E.R. . . . I have to disagree with you about Rick Warren. I had to put on Mute...it went on and on. It seemed inappropriate...had he not cleared it?

Yes, the flub was wince-worthy. On another level, though, it was reassuring.

Obama rushing his line . . . Roberts mangling his completely . . . Obama pausing, with a smile - knowing that Roberts had got it wrong, but gracious as per his usual - to let Roberts recover.

Both are men at the top of their fields...neither known for flubs.

I know we all want our history to be in solemn moments and all . . . but there was something oddly human and reassuring about that moment.
