Jim,

Anyone who thinks that Republicans can make a comeback in th elong term needs to look at the demographics of the situation. http://www.nationaljournal.com/njmagazine/nj_20... . As the Republicans talk about making changes and finding a direction, the number of people who are automatic Democratic voters is increasing and the number of people who can be persuded by the Republicans is going down.

The Republicans won't find their "way back" for years yet. They're too wedded to Reagan as the next best thing to Jesus and his line about government being the problem.

kritt,

There is no one left to listen to. That is one of the legacies of the Bush Administration. The Republicans threw away all of their credbility for some earmarks and government pork. Now the same idiots want to fix the problems by importing millions of people who will be automatic Democratic voters and by expanding entitlement programs.

"In no small way, we’ve been victims of our own success. We fought communism and won. We fought stagnation brought on by high taxes and restrictive government policies."

Having to go all the way back to the cold war to find "success", says it all for the GOP

The Democratic Party lite idea has worked so well for Repulbicans in the Northeast, that Tom Davis now wants to try it over the entire country. Of course, it is a terrible idea and his even mentioning that the Republicans should blatantly pander to Hispanic with the illegal immigrant issue while asking nothing in return is definitely a loser.

Of course, while Tom Davis could insert earmarks, spent like a trophy wife at Saks, and create more government programs, he remained silent on the problems. Now that he left office instead of be in the minority, he is ready to tell everyone else that they need to be as liberal as his wife tried to be while running for a Virginia State Senate seat. Of course, that his wife's campaign was a train wreck and going left caused her to lose in a rout must not have gotten through to him.

Anyone who listens to a failure like Tom Davis is a fool. He was at leader of the Republican Party as it drove off the cliff and now he wants to blame others.
