The Most Misunderestimated President

With less than two weeks to go till TGIF (Thank God It’s Finished—Bush’s regime, that is), those nasty, disrespectful members of the MSM have been having a field day thrashing Bush’s eight years of wild success and lampooning the greatest Decider himself.

Even the thankless, hate America, foreign media have joined in, including that bastion of British Liberalism, the BBC.

All this while Bush and Cheney are trotting around the interview circuit trying to fabricate a legacy.

For example, while some claim that Bush has been underestimated, and others claim that he has been misunderstood, according to the BBC, Bush claims that he was “misunderestimated.’

This and other delightful, err… demeaning “Bushisms” have been collected, categorized and published by the BBC News in a defining, sorry…defiling article, “The ‘misunderestimated’ president?” It includes such classics as:

ON HIMSELF

“There’s an old saying in Tennessee – I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee – that says, fool me once, shame on… shame on you. Fool me – you can’t get fooled again.”
Nashville, Tennessee, 17 September, 2002

“There’s no question that the minute I got elected, the storm clouds on the horizon were getting nearly directly overhead.”
Washington DC, 11 May, 2001

ON FOREIGN AFFAIRS

“For a century and a half now, America and Japan have formed one of the great and enduring alliances of modern times.”
Tokyo, 18 February, 2002

“The war on terror involves Saddam Hussein because of the nature of Saddam Hussein, the history of Saddam Hussein, and his willingness to terrorise himself.”
Grand Rapids, Michigan, 29 January, 2003

“Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.”
Washington DC, 5 August, 2004

“You know, one of the hardest parts of my job is to connect Iraq to the war on terror.”
CBS News, Washington DC, 6 September, 2006

ON EDUCATION

“Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?”
Florence, South Carolina, 11 January, 2000

“You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test.”
Townsend, Tennessee, 21 February, 2001

ON ECONOMICS

“It’s clearly a budget. It’s got a lot of numbers in it.”
Reuters, 5 May, 2000

“First, let me make it very clear, poor people aren’t necessarily killers. Just because you happen to be not rich doesn’t mean you’re willing to kill.”
Washington DC, 19 May, 2003

ON HEALTHCARE

“Too many good docs are getting out of the business. Too many OB/GYN’s aren’t able to practice their love with women all across the country.”
Poplar Bluff, Missouri, 6 September, 2004

ON TECHNOLOGY

“Information is moving. You know, nightly news is one way, of course, but it’s also moving through the blogosphere and through the Internets.”
Washington DC, 2 May, 2007

ON GOVERNING

“I’m the decider, and I decide what is best.”
Washington DC, 18 April, 2006

“I’ll be long gone before some smart person ever figures out what happened inside this Oval Office.”
Washington DC, 12 May, 2008

Wow, Bush may be correct on this last one—considering all the secrecy, shredded files, lost and disappearing documents and e-mails, erased hard drives, failing memories, etc., etc.

    Yes, Dorian

They are both out there telling their tall tales. If you listen to them, you almost feel like you were living in a different country for the last 8 years.Play theme from the Twilight Zone here.

I wouldn't worry too much about what those two outlaws are spinning, because at the moment the only politician I can think of with less credibility than George W. Bush and Dick Cheney is Larry Craig. ( On second thought, I'll put Blago in that group, just to prove that I'm not on a partisan rant!)

    krit11:

Haven't heard too much about Larry Craig lately. Do you have some news?

  3. kritt11 says:

    Dorian–
The latest, as of yesterday, is that Craig has run out of appeals and is no longer fighting his guilty plea. He would have sent the matter all the way to SCOTUS, but his attorneys assured him that they would not take up the matter. (and probably the additional publicity would not help). So he is finally just letting it drop, LOL.

BTW— I also think that these memorable words of Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld will live long after they are gone— “So what”?, “So?”, and “Stuff happens”!

    Have a great weekend!

  4. D. E.Rodriguez says:

Thanks, for the Craig update, krit. I have written on Cheney's and Bush's “So?” and “So What?”, and will be posting one on a “Bushctionary” I have “developed”—similar to some of the “Bushopedias” that are floating around. We might as well have some fun, too, about a man who has caused so much misery.

  5. kritt11 says:

Absolutely, Dorian– we may as well have some fun. And if enough of the real Bush/Cheney info gets out there-how can they be canonized in later years by historians?
