We need to remember that, unlike the situation in Iraq, the Taliban are mostly Afghanis themselves. Therefore if the Afghan people want their lives to improve, they should make being a member of the Taliban unacceptable. After all, they are the sons and brothers of the country. If we had spent on rebuilding Afghanistan even a fraction of the billions we’ve poured into Iraq, we most likely wouldn’t be in this situation.
