Four Horsemen Alert

lightening.jpgFor those of you keeping tabs on Signs of the End Times, I have another entry for your journal. This morning I was awoken at 4:00 a.m. on Dec. 27 in Upstate New York by a thunderstorm with lightning flashing across the sky. This, my friends, is just not right.

During the spring, summer and fall, we put up with nonsense like this because:

A. It’s warmer
B. The streets aren’t covered in ice and snow
and
C. Sometimes it clears up and you can go fishing.

Having thunder and lightning this close to New Years in this part of the country is just off the charts. I have already written a strongly worded e-mail to The Weather Channel letting them know that the recent quality of service is intolerable and somebody should be sharply reprimanded if not fired.

It's really strang because right around 5am Kansas City time a storm blew in here with thunder and lightning and 50mph winds. On Monday before Christmas it was below zero and yesterday(Friday) it was 64 degrees. The only problem I have is trying to explain to the people I work with is that THIS IS the results of Global Warming.

The old record high in KC for December 26th was 64. Yesterday the official high was 67. It was amazingly humid and felt like a day in May or June. Right now it it 32 degrees. This change took place over a span of 2 hours. It went from 57 down to 33 between 2:52 and 5:15 this morning. We're supposed to get about an inch of snow this afternoon, which is what we had on the ground Christmas morning after the snow fell Christmas Eve morning.
  • Vail got 4 feet of snow in December. Nice.

Sadly, all our pine and spruce trees are dying, due to a double whammy from climate change. It takes a sustained cold snap of -30 F. to kill the pine bark beetles and spruce budworm. We haven't had one in 8 years. And, the trees' natural defense, exuding sap to kill the borers, is weakened by the worst drought in over 400 years (Vail's one awesome snow month does not a healthy forest make).
