Obamamania (Polls and Other Useless Holiday Trinkets)

What a piece of breaking news from The USA Today! President-elect Barack Obama is the most admired person selected by 1/3 of 1,008 American adults. This is about as earth shattering as finding out that there is no Santa Claus and the “Magic Bullet” really did not cause the death of President John F. Kennedy.

The amazing stat is that only 32% of Americans admire Obama. Obama won 365 electoral votes and won states that have been traditionally Republican including Colorado and Virginia. With the continuing housing crisis, the impending auto industry bailout, and today’s news of plummeting retail holiday sales, I would think that Obama’s “admiration” numbers would be much higher (perhaps close to 50%).

This poll, and a quarter, will buy you one chocolate munchkin from Dunkin’ Donuts. In fact, forget this poll, I would rather take my time eating the donut.

Where did you get that figure? The poll you talked about in the previous paragraph obviously does NOT say that. Did you just make it up?

    Does TMV policy allow lying?

The left side of the article has the results of the USA Today / Gallup Poll

    USA TODAY/GALLUP POLL

What man living today do you admire most?
    1. Barack Obama 32%
    2. George W. Bush 5%
    3. John McCain 3%
    4. Pope Benedict XVI* 2%
    Billy Graham 2%
    Bill Clinton 2%

The same USA TODAY article also states:

“Obama's rise is matched by Bush's decline. The president's support has ebbed nearly every year since 2001, falling to 5% this year.”

Now, this percentage “and a quarter, will buy you one chocolate munchkin from Dunkin’ Donuts,” which I will tremendously enjoy eating and taking my time doing so–for at least the next four years .

    Tony—

Uh I think if you asked most Americans, more than 2% would say they admire Bill Clinton. The key is —the poll asked who do you admire the MOST???
