There's no sound reason for Churches to be involved in the process of granting rights which are the state's duty to uphold. Churches could be welcome to bestow some sort of blessing upon a civil union and would be free to exclude any couple who are outside the faith. My hunch is that gays are going to try the old "since some are legitimate, then all should be" argument.<br><br>And in anticipation of this, the opposition has intelligently filed to have all gay marriages officially nullified, though their value as civil unions will continue inasmuch as survivor's rights etc. are involved. So one wonders what the fuss is all about? Gays are not men and women in union together. They're seeking to rework the foundation of the meaning of "marriage". <br><br>Simply call their unions something else. I agree with Elton John.
