The Hero Who Made Bush’s Head a ‘Playground for His Shoes’: Iraqi News Agency

There is no disputing the fact that Iraqi journalist Muntadhar al-Zaidi, in hurling his shoes at President Bush, has struck a nerve in Iraqi society and in the Arab world in general.

The headline on this article from the Al-Iraq News, which describes the editorial position of the Iraq News Network, apparently a TV broadcaster, says it all. The subhead of the article reads:

“A call for solidarity with the heroic Iraqi journalist, Muntadhar al-Zaidi, who made Bush’s head a playground for his shoes.”

The article then calls for his immediate release, saying in part:

“The Network also called for al-Zaidi’s immediate release from custody, saying that his actions not only represent the act of a single individual, but reflect the vehement feelings and desires of all Iraqis, who hate nothing more than they hate George Bush and who have been left to languish by the Iraqi government.”

Iraq – Al Iraq News – Original Article (Arabic)

A call for solidarity with the heroic Iraqi journalist, Muntadhar al-Zaidi, who made Bush’s head a playground for his shoes.

The Iraq News Network has saluted the manly and courageous stand taken by that dutiful and genuine son of the Iraqi people, journalist Muntadhar al-Zaidi. Al-Zaidi transformed the head of U.S. President George W. Bush into a playground for a pair of shoes. Al-Zaidi’s actions sent Bush reeling from right to left – despite attempts by the leader of the al-Sistani government, Nouri al-Malaki, to defend his master with his right hand. The call for solidarity, issued on behalf of the editor-in-chief of the Iraq News Network, Mr. Diaa’ al-Kawwaz, and his entire staff, said that this precious Iraqi had cleansed the hearts of Iraqis with cool water and healed their chests of a pain that percolated within like the melting of iron in a boiling cauldron.

All Americans, no matter how they feel about President Bush, should be united in condemning this idiotic act. Too bad that isn't true.

  2. kritt11 says:

I never applaud violent demonstrations of any kind, but this act DOES cut into the spin the Bush administration has concocted about the gratitude of the 50 million liberated Iraqis. Forced democracy just doesn't seem to be their cup of tea. It also reveals Maliki's status as a US puppet rather than a man popular with his countrymen.

  3. D. E.Rodriguez says:

As Bush himself has said: This is a democracy, and this is what democracies do. We reap exactly what we sow

I just watched a series of interviews on Iraq on the Real News Network. Very well done and recommended.

I have a dream: a million shoes covering the White House lawn.

Ten pairs flying out of nowhere everytime the man opens his mouth.

I want this man to have shoe nightmares for the rest of his life.
