For readers who have seen the 78 pages are so and wonder not about the identity of "[President-Elect]" but of individuals like "[Senate Candidate 1]" through "[Senate Candidate 5]" instead:

http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/12/09...

The seeming level of corruption here is unreal. I think even a Daley would look at this and be embarassed.

Even worse, I would not be shocked if he remains in office to 2010 and is re-elected.

Pete -- I also had suspected that Obama or his people may have had something to do with the timing of the arrest and may have tipped the feds off about Blagojevich. Also, I wondered elsewhere if this in fact wasn't among the things Obama discussed with Bush during their private meeting earlier this year. It gets the governor and his and his people's interference out of the way and pre-empts any move by the governor that would only create problems later as well as taint Obama by association.

The evidence reveals some familiarity by Obama with the governor and other Chicago people, but there is also enough of a difference and a distinction between the two camps that Obama is probably free of problems, even with that sordid three-way deal discussed where in exchange for Obama's getting to choose who goes to the Senate, the governor would (in lieu of becoming Energy Secretary or an ambassador) would become a leader at Change to Win for a large salary and Obama would see to it that See to Win, won some of its objectives. (SEIU, ACORN, the other union taint is also bad.)

Emanuel probably didn't like being presented with demands for what he likely viewed as a great favor related to something Obama and his people "own" and plan to have occupied by one of their people, someone reliable and loyal and another insider to be rewarded, not the governor or one of his people.

Power struggle! Obama wins, the governor loses. Too greedy, Governor.
