Marine Jet Down in San Diego
A F-18 has gone down near Miramar Air Base, crashing into a residential area. Early reports are that the pilot ejected safely and that, while a home was destroyed by the crash, nobody was hurt.
UPDATE: Unfortunately word is now out that three people on the ground have died. Our sympathies to the families
The base was once home to the Top Gun school of the US Navy but they moved to Nevada because people kept building houses in proximity to the base and it thus became unsafe to train there.
Kudos to the pilot for doing his best to avoid hitting the residential area.
