Shinseki spent a large portion of his career in Germany and Europe. How does that qualifiy him to be head of the VA, a social welfare organization. He has not had to wait in line for healthcare for a personnel issue in over 20 years, how does that qualify him to be head of the VA?

Again, as I said twice (?) disagreeing with those in power on a matter of principle, conscience, etc.is NOT necessarily a qualification, but rather a matter of character.. See the numerous posts, articles, biographies for the general's QUALIFICATIONS..

Shinseki was responsbile for the public relations disaster of the black berets for the Army. That shows that he is far from perfect. His own subordinate told him not to do it and he did it anyway. So much for being fully qualified.

D.E. what other qualitification other can publicly disagreeing with his boss does Shinseki have?

Shinseki will eventually run for the Senate in Hawaii.

Also, how does disagreeing with Rumsfeld qualify someone who run a social welfare agency Congress loves to tinker with and that does not own all of the process that it responsbile for?

1. That sign and that "office": he continues to manipulate those who are so easily manipulated!

2. This is not an "anti-war" victory, kids. Calm down.

3. Will Shinseki be involved with VA in not only expanding benefits but possibly working with the the other Obama people to eventually move VA into Medicare?

4. More specifically with defense and a Cabinet post, is this a spot for Shinseki until Gates leaves and needs to be replaced?

5. Pay attention to see if the new VA head continues to influence Defense Department decisions, including the change to and new emphasis on lighter and wheeled vehicles for the Army. This would constitute a hint that he may indeed be the future Defense Secretary. (And that has implications for what Obama may or may not spare in Defense when he is finding money to spend elsewhere, such as on infrastructure repair and replacement here in the States.)
