
In a major attack, about 30 “suspected militants” armed with guns and rockets attacked the Portward Logistic Terminal in Peshawar (Pakistan) burning 106 vehicles carrying critical supplies (including Humvees) to NATO and US troops in Afghanistan.
A latest report says:”Rising violence and instability in Pakistan’s northwest coincides with serious tensions with its eastern neighbour India in the wake of recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai.
“Sunday’s assault was the boldest…feeding concern that Taliban militants could cut or seriously disrupt the route through the famed Khyber Pass. NATO is seeking to open alternative routes through Central Asia.
“Up to 75 per cent of the supplies for Western forces in the landlocked country pass through Pakistan after being unloaded from ships at the Arabian sea port of Karachi.” More here…
There have repeated and dramatic attacks on US and NATO military logistics supplies in recent months in Pakistan. At one time the foreign troops had to seek the intervention of Pakistan government/military to lift the blockade of NATO supplies through Pakistan.
These developments have been making the US and the NATO troops more and more vulnerable to attacks from the militants/terrorists.
