Side note about sensationalism —

On Inauguration Day, 1993, we in the Puget Sound (Seattle metro, Tacoma, Olympia, et cetera) had a wind storm. It was serious, with at least one fatality from fallen trees; I took my car pool mate on a tour through lesser-damaged areas and quickly ended it when we encountered fallen power lines as well as trees around the corner of one road.

Well, no event goes unexploited. Two years later, another wind storm was predicted. So what did one teevee station concoct? Hours of programming entitled “Windstorm [sic; "Wind Storm"] '95.” It featured one loud-mouthed broadcaster atop the Space Needle (on the open observation deck) and when anything resembling a gust happened, he shouted and grabbed the structure for “safety” during such a “dangerous” moment, for theatrical effect. In fact, I believe I actually saw him grab the structure at least once and lunge away from it, i.e., deliberately create a false, exaggerated image of what the force of the wind happened to be (or not to be) at that moment.

I do not like sensationalism and hype, and resort to fraud. (The media has done this in the past to assist in various left wing “causes” such as vehicle safety or hazard, as we know with exploding vehicles, or in slandering the United States as in a fradulent chemical weapon-use-in-Vietnam story.)

Incidentally, the storm was a bust. There was some wind but there was no severe storm as there was in January 1993. Fitting…
