None of this is very new information, they didn't really have to have a hearing to find out what physicians have known for years. The New England Journal has been editorializing about corruption in the drug business for at least a decade. In fact Congress has passed laws and rules about this several times in the past.

The numbers did impress me, however.

What you may not know is that Big Pharma tracks the prescription patterns of every physician via software that they give to pharmacies. Every time a prescription is cashed in, the information (minus the patient's name) goes to a central computer that correlates the information so the drug companies can focus their sales on specific doctors. This is the reason I haven't talked to a drug rep in 15 years or so.
