pacatrue- I think this is legislators being dickish about the whole Genarlow Wilson deal. Something like, “Well, you may have made us bow to your wishes and change this law, but it isn't going to help you, jerkoff,” or something like that. You can tell we breed 'em quality down here, can't you?

Do you know the reasoning that supporters of the law give? Is someone arguing that a woman really needs to be punished for years for this crime, does no one care, or is this a case of “well, we have to apply the law no matter how stupid” that just goes on and on?

The “Romeo and Juliette” clauses in most state laws *should* prevent these types of situations, but sadly they are not homogeneous across the states. The idea that a grown woman continues to be abused by the system for the “crime” of having sex with her boyfriend who was 14 months her junior is obscene. Unfortunately this isn't the kind of garbage that is quickly or easily flushed out of our legal system.

It's cases like this that drive moderates and libertarians from the Republican party. To demonize a young woman for something she did as a teen is an outrage. Where is the forgiveness Jimmy Swaggart, Earl Paulk and Jim Baker your caring god preaches?

Will we ever see a time, in this generation, where human sexual activity isn't demonized by the church and thus by large measures of society–where there is no fascination with puritanical ideas in regards to sex? Funny that such a mindset can drive ideology for an substantial base of a political party, whereby the unsung hero is a “sexy puritan” Sarah Palin. Rush Limbaugh: “She's hot!”

16 years old? 17 years old? Give me a break. Pull off your blinders, society. Get a life. Keep your government away from innocent sex, and spend more time worrying about the true abuse.

I thought the Genarlow Wilson case was outrageous. The case with Wendy Whitaker trumps it (with all due respect to Genarlow Wilson). Ms. Whitaker a SEX OFFENDER?? Where? Look at your local sex offender registry and see if she belongs with some of THOSE “characters”. I hope the she gets her house and life back.
