Michael Mukasey Sudden Illness, Update

A statement from Department of Justice just released says about Mr. Mukasey who is 67 years young/old:

“The Attorney General is conscious, conversant and alert. His vital statistics are strong and he is in good spirits. He is receiving excellent care and appreciates all of the good wishes and prayers he has received. The doctors will keep him overnight for further observations.”

OK then, maybe just a blot of mustard, an under-done bit of potato… that would be great news for his family, that the trouble was just a little gastroenteritis or a little food poisoning… instead of a stroke, heart attack or cardiac arrest.

On the other hand, the plastic quality of the news release gives no information at all:

I hate it when press releases from what’s supposed to be Intelligence in Government sound like they were written by Hallmark.

Nonetheless, if the press release is even remotely accurate, this may just be a moment in time similar to poor President Bush the Elder, also caught on camera, collapsing during a formal dinner from a minor illness, but one that nonetheless got hold of his tripes and made him really really sick.

If you’ve ever had gastroenteritis, you may not die from it, but for a time, you wish you could.

Mr. Mukasey, I’m sure, would rather tonight’s eventfulness become fodder for SNL and that Mr. M live long from this point forward… rather than the worse alternatives.

  • Maybe he got sick of subverting our laws?

heard on CNN at the time he was giving a spirited defense of the Bush policies. . .perhaps it is true. . .the body does not lie. . . .

dear ChrisWWW, i think he actually perhaps fainted from being dehydrated and under hot lights? (geez,, think of how awful that would be if we all got sick in cadence with everything we did or didnt do.... there'd be more hospitals than houses. lol) The medical press release today is maddeninglly vague about what the trouble actually was, and instead lays hard on stress test, CT scan, MRI showing nothing. It seems a clang to not see a diagnosis in the public report.

ON a different note, as a shrink, I wondered what the word was he was reported by some to have said several times as he was apparently struggling to hold up right as he began to lose consciousness. And Chris, you may be picking up the scent for reallies... I read today that he reportedly said some time back that he was discouraged by the work once he was appointed. That is likely the interesting under-story, perhaps the most under-reported to date regarding Mr. M

I agree with Chris. And this episode also shows why in a time of extreme national crises (financial, wars, etc.) we need a young and energetic president who has the presence of mind to appoint people in his cabinet (and generally in his administration) with enough fortitude to weather the numerous crises.

I wish Mukasey lots of quality time in his hospital bed.

Yes dear StockBoySF, see newest story at top of TMV fold, on what actually happened before Mr. Mukasey fainted. It could very well be that the challenge caused 'an event' of fainting. Not saying it is so. But it's possible for blood pressure to spike and fall quickly when confronted strongly, or attacked verbally, or given bad news, or...

    See what you think
