Barack Obama’s Presidential Role Model

Obama as FDR (or as Jesus, etc.), in effect throughout the year, along with the other "progressive" personality-cult nonsense, has been silly to stupid.

There was positive appeal to people by Obama, but this election was principally a negative one, against the GOP (not limited to President Bush and his administration, but the GOP), not a desire for a new New Deal.

Even that term is tainted (along with "Great Society," which is more tainted, to the point where use of the latter term is deliberately avoided more by liberals than the also-tainted word "liberal" -- including on this site, where liberals use the term "moderate" instead). Those of us who know better have already said that any substantial action by Washington needs to be given a name with a more positive connotation, such as "Marshall Plan," rather than "New Deal." As for Obama, he is not Lincoln, not FDR, not JFK, simply a better man than McCain this year, and in what most view as the better of the two major political parties.

What will the starry-eyed do when Obama fails to walk on water or perform miracles the day after he is sworn into office?

Wiser people are simply going to wait and see what he does, not only with the economy, but, for example, with health care, which has been eclipsed by the economy (not limited to the failures in Detroit), but which remains an issue.

Will Obama be more realistic than the kids (who, for example, want Lieberman excommunicated, and better, deported from this country) expect? Physicians, particularly those on the front lines, are reporting _again_ how disenchanted to disgusted they are with medicine. It's not only insurance companies and lawyers that are ruining medicine. Government failures also are hurting doctors. Read it yourselves. I suspect Obama is going to read it. (It's worth a separate thread if people can break away from Obama for at least a few minutes. After all, more important things like impending bankruptcies of the Detroit auto makers are more important right now. So is health care.)
