So I noticed that the woman plays World of Warcraft.... I guess if her husband's computer character who has sex online and that can be considered cheating in real life then her online character who (presumably, since that's what the game is based on) goes around killing other characters can be considered the same as her murdering in real life. Call the cops, there's a killer loose.

My sense is that she was looking for a way out of the marriage The article mentions she has already in a new relationship with someone she met online.

They are nuts.

Though having said that I do leave open the possibility of Mark's observation about "the growing attitudes of many about the disposable and seeming insignificance of sexual intimacy." I think there are numerous reasons why many people may have diminished respect for sexual intimacy and love. But computer games are not the cause. The cause is people who don't have a healthy attitude towards love and sexual intimacy and who are unable to draw the line between computer games and reality. To the extent these people use computer games as a substitution, then yes, the computer games do add to the underlying problems.

But still, these people are nuts. Now about those murder charges.... :)

I wrote about the question of whether this constitutes an affair from a Christian perspective and why several days ago on my personal blog: http://markdaniels.blogspot.com/2008/11/when-vi...

I do think, as JSpencer puts it, that the couple involved is "silly." But at a far lower level of silliness, they echo the growing attitudes of many about the disposable and seeming insignificance of sexual intimacy.

Mark

Frankly, I don't know anyone who wouldn't laugh at this story, and when I say "anyone", I'm talking about a wide variety of human sensibility. I don't doubt for a second this is serious business to the couple involved, but at the risk of looking judgemental (not to mention generationally stranded) I'm going to come right out and say these people are (dare I use the n word) . . . NUTS! I wish them luck in dividing their virtual assets and working out custody rights with their virtual children and pets. Too bad, but the only ones who are really going to come out ahead in this are the virtual lawyers. Ah well...
