If Republicans couldn't make their ideology work in the real world- maybe they've outlived their natural lifespan. If you notice, they seem to be looking backwards for solutions- instead of forwards. How many times will they quote Ronald Reagan in '12???? LOL

The 80's were a lifetime ago, yet many in the GOP are still living in them. The Clintons failed because they reached back to the 90's– Republicans cannot succeed by denying reality-

In reality we are a diverse society and a multicultural one. We have many faiths- not just the Christian one, and some of us are irreparably gay. You can tell teenagers to just say no- but then you end up with pregnant teenagers. Also– global warming is not a plot by Al Gore to make a pile of money.

Patton Guy — If you want to view the Dems in a positive light (pun intended), think of the GOP for now as seeming like a pack of wolves receding out of sight of the light of a camp fire, but ready to advance whenever it's propitious eventually. More seriously, they'll remain the party of the opposition to the Dems' big government approach to governing, at least in theory for now, and may add substance to this as an alternative someday, such as when people object to higher taxes in the future, or various kinds of increased intervention, or if we go into a long slump and the Dems don't improve most people's lives, or seem to make many of them worse (beginning with higher taxes that are spent on others).

Hehe, me again. I would agree that it is possible that the Republicans could fall apart, but I don't think that necessarily means “one-party rule” will ensue. It may just mean that the Republican Party will be replaced with a different party, as the Republicans filled in for the Whigs. And really, it's too early to make firm predictions. If the Democrats either lose seats or gain very few seats in the midterms, that could possibly mean that the Republicans will make the turnaround in 2012. I'm just concerned about people who are signing the death warrant and calling the notary to make it official. Which is to say, much of the MSM and quite a few bloggers on both sides.

Here is another news item as of today that may only make things worse for the GOP.

You're probably aware of the Bush administration's game-playing with current-war vets who are wrongfully declared to have had pre-war behavioral problems, making them ineligible for benefits.

You probably know about the earlier Gulf War vets' plight that by all rights looked due to exposure to nerve agents (acetylcholine esterase inhibitors). This was the basis of claims place on sites such as Gulflink.

Well, guess what was released today? A report that makes them seem like more than "just a bunch of whiners" -- "no, it's not all in their heads" (then any more than now).

This (see report below) could be the basis for an expanded investigation into the recent behavior (as well as past behavior) of some in the Bush administration, given that many of the same people were in charge then.

It may add to the time or extent the GOP is in the wilderness.

[NOTE: almost 7 meg -- report, earlier Gulf War vets suffer disease related to nervous system damage from issued prescriptions, use of insecticides, and exposure to sarin in Iraq, which have the obvious threat of potentiating one another]]
