Jazz-Very good points. You don't want to take someone on that might sabotage your administration just to win brownie points in his party.

The best type of Republican to offer a position to is someone like Chuck Hagel- who has demonstrated significant independence from the GOP, and doesn't seem to care about getting back in their good graces.

StockBoySF,

I agree with you up to a point, but what is with this site and its false equivalency.

Jazz's statement A brief look at the debate raging over Joe Lieberman should be an object lesson for anyone considering such a post-partisan position. makes the point that Lieberman's troubles are due to his being post-partisan politician, but anyone whose followed politics since the 2006 elections know Lieberman difficulty with his former party and a large part of the country is due to words and actions as a lackey for the neo-conservative mafia.

If Jazz wanted to reference a Democrat who reached across parties in a post-partisan manner why didn't he mention the old Democratic warhorse Ted Kennedy without whose support there would not have been a No Child Left Behind or Prescription Drug Benefit, two Bush initiatives which Democrats hated to see passed.
