On the other hand, much talk radio and cable TV discussion of issues has boiled down to using that word without using that word…

Umm. Joe Scarborough is on MSNBC's Morning Joe, but you can be forgiven for thinking he is on Fox. He would be a perfect fit there.

perhaps the most odd /funny/ironic thing is the expressions of all the other pundits on Scarborough's show who have child-like expressions of 'Owm, you said 'the bad bad word,' Owmmm.'
That was priceless, their expressions after the fact, and though I wouldnt like the lexicon as a matter of daily discourse, it looks like a mistake. Just one of those things that makee you wish you could jump off the roof and go invisible.
One wonders where the 'bleeper-outer-of-bad-words' guy was at MSNBC. Asleep at the Bleeper, obviously. Poor guy.
It was a Groucho moment, that's for sure. (Who used to cuss like a sailor it is said)

Wow, after all his panty-sniffing, holier-than-thou witch hunts, Janet Jackson-demonizing, and the real attempts to make that particular word a friggin issue of political import, Joe of all people lets it fly. I assume he will be calling for his own firing now?

But I agree with roro80 (and Rambie) and all the hypocrisy that goes on around such matters (mistakes). Poor Janet, her boob will never be the same. Yet Joe can make this boo-boo and get away with it.
