And there's the rub — all that is left in the current incarnation of the Republican party are the hardcore zealots, the koolaid drinkers, and the extremist morality ideologues. There were very few moderate and intelligent Republicans left in any position of power before the election, and after the election – even fewer. So we get the lunatic fringe like this gentleman, and the lady up in Minnesota that wanted a McCarthy-like investigation on whether or not senators and congressmen were patriotic enough or not. The Republican party has turned in on itself, purging anyone who dares to utter a peep of dissent, and because the ever-yawning gap between redstate and bluestate America, that's not likely to change in the forseeable future.
