I supported Dean for the DNC chair back in 2005 because I believed in his vision of expanding the Democratic electorate beyond the same old states that did nothing beyond guaranteeing Ds solid 46% losses.

And, though some may argue, I think he very much laid the path for Obama both in that context as well as in his vision for using new media.

Who now to lead the DNC? David Plouffe perhaps?

Sounds like Dean is doing a George Kastanza (sp?). Getting out while on top.

I do not understand the commentary about Dean being “allied” with the GOP. He was a 9 year Democratic governor of Vermont, and is one of the constant whipping boys of conservative talk radio.

Dean is leaving in order to run for the Senate if Patrick Leahey retires, as expected, in 2010. I will work for his election.

The first qualification should be to not be allied with the GOP in any way, shape or form.

Hence the reason it is wonderful that Dean stepped down..
