Obama is a Baby Boomer. It's self-absorbed to write as if the head end of the Baby Boom defines that cohort -- it does not. (If anything, the largest part of the cohort, in the middle of its birth years, defines the cohort best.) It is in no way mainstream to be vigorously (and pathologically) anti-Vietnam-War, or to have engaged in the frequent degenerate riots and strife in the 1960s, nor to have adopted the sick radicalism of that era which persists to this day, constantly regurgitated as each new year's kids' faddish "discovery." (Among other things, it makes Chomsky a persistently wealthy capitalist.)

As to Boyydz's remarks, they are common reaction among normal individuals who encounter this site and its redefinition of "moderate." Although you have to realize that in some cases, it's extra-bad. This thread's beginning makes one think of 1997-2007 rather than 1947 as the author's birth year. It may well remain that way until January.

Disappointing. This article sounds exactly like Democrat talking points during the campaign, hardly "moderate" in my view. Denunciation of the Vietnam War without recognizing the reasonable, if perhaps unsatisfying, rationales behind it seems partisan on the face of it. Furthermore, to look upon the outcome of two elections where the GOP had become seen as unfit as evidence that the US is not a right-of-center nation seems a left-leaning thought that denies the evidence that society has become merely more tolerant of leftist views, not embracing of them.

The later comments about "the Bush administration’s empty post-9/11 rhetoric", "the outrages of the Bush Years", and the idea that "America rediscovered itself on Election Day" hardly seem in spirit with the bipartisan or nonpartisan view one would expect from moderates. Indeed, one would expect moderates to have a guarded optimism regarding this new president and where he would try to guide America. This Obama cheerleading and Bush bashing would have seemed more at home at the DNC than TMV.

I would expect more moderate comment from a presumably moderate blog. Why come here when I can get the same stuff at HuffPo without the pretense of being "moderate"?

Interesting article. Relevantly, many prominent experts and publications have pointed out that Obama is part of Generation Jones, born 1954-1965, between the Boomers and GenXers.
You may find this page interesting: it has, among other things, excerpts from publications like Newsweek and the New York Times, and videos with over 25 top pundits, all talking specifically about Obama’s identity as a GenJoneser: http://www.generationjones.com/2008election.html
