It appears that the GOP has lost the ability to reproduce and build on their successes, and learn from their failures. They hunker down and shrink back into their ideology, instead of using a pragmatic, successful politician like Schwarzenegger as their model.

Many voters really do not want to vote (D), but are feeling forced into it because the Republican party has become exclusionary, rigid and mean-spirited. The GOP is held captive by bigwigs like James Dobson, Richard Land and Grover Norquist, who dictate to their candidates– crippling their leadership ability. That's really what happened to McCain- he bowed to the very forces he once called intolerant.

I agree with both Arnolds words and the fears of the right.

But sites like Kos and Left Coaster discussing purges do not encourage me for the other side of the debate.

I fear that Schwarzenegger's words will fall on deaf ears. The once Grand Old Party has been hijacked by those who hate and fear knowledge. It's no longer just the liberals that are seen as elitists but thinking and pragmatic Republicans like Schwarzenegger and George Will among others. It will take several election cycles to turn that around.
