Yes, it is possible to find hypoallergenic dogs in shelters. The current ruler of our house, one Sparky (whose evil twin is referred to as Mr. Barky) is an apricot toy poodle that was found in a shelter purely by accident. He knows he rules the house in spite of the bane of his existence, another dog from the shelter whose been here several years longer than Sparky and (quite annoyingly for Sparky) is 7 times Sparky's size of 12 pounds in spite of the fact that he was supposed to be a 20 to 30 pound terrier mix. The attack just doesn't look that vicious when it consists of growling, standing on your hind legs and hitting the other dog with your paws.

I've been reading a good deal about this, and the American Kennel Club has already taken all these things into consideration and come up with some candidates:

The winners of a poll between different hypoallergenic dogs were a pair of black toy poodles, both of them rescue dogs, of course.

I think expecting Obama to get adult dogs for his daughters is a little too much. It'd be nice, yes, but he did promise puppies and his press people would probably strangle him if he denied them the image of the hyper-cute little girls hugging the mega-cute puppies (so would dentists, considering the number of cavities those pics would cause). What he could do, later on, is get himself an adult mutt for himself.

As for the girls, I think unfortunately those toy poodles won't happen, because black dogs don't show well in photographs. That's why Clinton had a brown, not black, Labrador. But considering the huge number of dogs in shelters, I'm sure that considering the thousands of doggies in shelters, finding a hypoallergenic dog that is good around crowds (it will be a celebrity, after all) should be exceedingly easy. I'd rather it be a mutt, myself.

Hmm.

I vaguely remember there was a modest kurfluffle over Socks way back in the days (November 2007) when Hillary was supposed to be the next President.

All the way back in 2001, however, it was reported that Socks and Buddy had long been at odds. Reconciliatory negotiations proved futile.

In fact, subsequent investigation revealed Socks had retired to a life full of sunny windows with a loving, familiar figure from the White House.

No need, I think, for any Clinton-hatred over any of this.
